Summary
The capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, Jaipur forms the westernmost side of the cultural circuit known as the Golden Triangle. To join guided tours of Jaipur is to fall instantly in love with a city which has majesty in its DNA. Built on the orders of early-eighteenth century ruler Jai Singh, its ornately designed buildings are a masterclass in architecture. Known as the ‘pink city,’ and sometimes the ‘Paris of India’ too, Jaipur was painted to celebrate the arrival of the British Prince of Wales in 1876. Its reputation as a royal city was cemented further on visits by Queen Elizabeth II and Diana, Princess of Wales.
