Kalutara Multi Centre Holidays 2024 / 2025

Summary

A multi centre holiday to Kalutara in Sri Lanka combines the wonder of nature with beautiful architecture. Located less than 30 miles from the country’s capital, Colombo, Kalutara is a more laid-back destination.

Kalutara Chaitya is the only hollow Buddhist stupa shrine in the world and is well worth visiting. Inside, there are 74 colourful murals depicting Buddha’s life, which you won’t see anywhere else. Another stunning building you should visit is Richmond Castle. It’s actually an Edwardian mansion dating back to the early 20th century. It’s open to the public, and when you take a guided tour, you’ll learn all about this remarkable residence and its history.

After a busy time sightseeing, you may want to unwind on Kalutara Beach, especially to watch the sun set on another amazing day in Sri Lanka. Other places worth making the effort to visit include the wonderful Thudugala Ella waterfall, where you can go for a cooling dip in a natural pool after a scenic hike. Another natural wonder you won’t want to miss is Fa Hien Caves. An excavation in the late 1960s found evidence of cavemen living here around 37,000 years ago.

Kalutara may not be the first holiday destination that springs to me when visiting this part of the world, but you’re assured of a warm welcome. You’ll have a wonderful time whether you want to see all the sights or find a soothing spot by the sea to recharge your batteries.
