Summary
Calgary in Alberta is a cracking place to stop off during your Rocky Mountaineer rail holiday. The city hosted the Winter Olympics in 1988, but there’s so much more to it than snow sports.
To enjoy magnificent views without taking to the mountains, you can go to Calgary Tower, which is over 600 feet tall. There’s a revolving bar and restaurant if you want to spend more time admiring the scenery. Back on the ground, Fort Calgary is well worth seeking out, as it has a lovely riverside location and lots of interactive exhibits inside to guide you through many years of local history.
There’s nothing quite like a cool brewery tour to gain a greater understanding of the time and care that goes into every drop. Calgary’s Big Rock Brewery gives you a chance to have a good look around, and most importantly, sample some of the beers that have made it so popular since the mid-1980s.
On the outskirts of the city, Heritage Park Historical Village is a unique attraction that transports you back in time through old buildings and horse-drawn carts, among other things. You can enjoy a nice meal here and take an old-fashioned steam train ride.
If you plan to visit this part of Alberta in July, you’ll want to book tickets for the Calgary Stampede - a rodeo and festival lasting just over a week. If Calgary is calling you, take a look at our holiday deals below and call us with any questions.
