Kamloops, BC, Canada

Summary

When you book a remarkable Rocky Mountaineer rail trip, you’ll be blessed to spend some time in Kamloops, British Columbia. If you love the outdoor life and the peace and quiet of nature, this is a destination you’ll be desperate to return to.

There’s nothing quite like exercising in the fresh air and open spaces. You can immerse yourself in the countryside by biking, hiking or cross-country skiing, among other pursuits. If you’d prefer something a little less strenuous, a stroll around the BC Wildlife Park or a spot of ice fishing may be the order of the day.

Kamloops is also home to a vast number of sporting events throughout the year, so there’s likely to be something on during your stay. You could pop along to support the local ice hockey team, the Kamloops Blazers or take in a basketball or football match to savour the atmosphere.

We couldn’t talk about sports in Kamloops without mentioning skiing and snowboarding. The region is renowned for its slopes and resorts, such as Sun Peaks and Harper Mountain.

When you’re on holiday, it’s always nice to try the local produce. In the case of Kamloops, we’d recommend its Wine Trail, where you can have a lovely, relaxed time sampling bottles from different places along the Thompson River Valley.

The bi-weekly Kamloops Farmers’ Market is also worth checking out if you’re in town when it’s on. It’s a great way to meet new people, eat different foods and support local businesses.
