Summary
When you’re looking for a sunshine break to unwind and feel like yourself again, a multi centre holiday in Varadero, Cuba, is just the ticket. It’s an idyllic beach resort where you can enjoy being pampered, doing as little as possible and devouring vibrant local seafood dishes and imaginative Cuban cuisine.
The Hicacos Peninsula stretches along the Atlantic Ocean coastline, and despite the lure of the warm waters and stunning sands, there’s lots more to see and do if you want to explore the local area. For starters, you can hop on and off the local sightseeing bus and visit shops, markets and the gorgeous Marina Gaviota, where you can embark on a catamaran voyage to Cayo Blanco.
Other water-based pursuits we’d recommend include scuba diving to see the coral reefs and visiting Punta Hicacos Nature Park where you can swim with dolphins in a natural mangrove environment at the Delfinario.
There are also spectacular caves in the area if you’d like to see more of the natural wonders around Varadero. For example, at Cueva de Ambrosio and Cueva de Saturno, you can see ancient drawings, bats, stalactites and stalagmites close up.
Another fun-filled guided tour you might want to try is a classic car ride around Varadero, where you can see many fascinating places that are a bit off the usual tourist track.
Of course, as we said at the beginning, you could just decide to do as little as possible and enjoy cool drinks by the sea, spa treatments and glorious sunsets. It’s up to you!
