Summary
A multi centre holiday to Italy is made all the more memorable when you pick an itinerary that includes Pisa. Where else will you find a leaning bell tower that’s over 650 years old? You can choose to climb to the top and appreciate the panoramic views or stay at ground level for the obligatory snap of you pretending to hold up the Leaning Tower of Pisa!
Many visitors lap up the terrific Tuscan sunshine in and around the Piazza dei Miracoli, where you’ll also find Pisa Cathedral (known as the Duomo). There are other major attractions nearby, including Pisa Baptistery, but there’s a whole other side to this superb city away from the ‘Square of Miracles’.
For a completely different view of Pisa, we’d recommend walking along the 3km of ancient city walls., which date back to 1154. From 11 metres above the city streets, you’ll enjoy the various beautiful buildings and green spaces away from the hustle and bustle below.
Italy has inspired many amazing artists over the years, and there are many wonderful works of art to explore in Pisa. Two of the places we’d recommend are Palazzo Blu and the Centro Arte Moderna, both of which are close to the Arno River and host excellent exhibitions throughout the year.
Another absolute pleasure you shouldn’t miss when holidaying in Pisa is the local cuisine. Make an effort to venture off the beaten track to try some traditional neighbourhood restaurants in the San Martino area.
