Summary

Russia is awe-inspiring. The world’s largest country, it straddles Europe and Asia, with a unique culture and identity all of its own.

In Moscow, highlights include the Kremlin and Red Square, the colourful domes of St Basil’s Cathedral, and the ornate and opulent communist-era stations on the Moscow Metro – aptly known as the People’s Palace. Did you know? The city even has its own nature reserve at Elk Island.

Combine your visit with a trip to St Petersburg where you can soak up history and culture at The Hermitage, and experience the grandeur of Winter Palace, former home of the Russian Tsars.

Description

Colourful and gold-domed cathedrals such as the Dormition Cathedral punctuate the Moscow skyline. In Red Square you’ll find St. Basil’s Cathedral which is like no other you’ll have ever seen with its multi-coloured façade.

Moscow is a great place to go shopping as well as sightseeing with many malls and boutiques showcasing fashion to suit a wide range of tastes and budgets. After a busy day finding new outfits, you’ll be ready for a relaxing meal. From blini to borscht and pelmeni (boiled dumplings) to pirozhki (small pies often served as street food), the cuisine in Russia is tantalising and tasty.

Moscow is a sprawling city, so having a clear itinerary set out before you go makes sense. It has an eventful history, but hasn’t stood still. There’s a modern Moscow that’s emerged in recent times to give holiday makers a glimpse into both sides of its story.

Our multi-centre city break to Moscow and St. Petersburg is a splendid way to broaden your horizons. Book your trip today.

St. Petersburg

Founded in the early 1700s by Peter the Great, St. Petersburg is a city with culture oozing out of every pore. With over 250 museums alone, not to mention ballet, opera and some of the world’s most captivating art, St. Petersburg offers up a veritable feast of things to see and do during your multi-centre holiday.

The Bronze Horseman statue in Senate Square pays permanent tribute to the city’s founder. As you make your way through St. Petersburg you’ll be awe-struck by the beautiful palaces such as the Peterhof and Winter Palace.

The city also has a restaurant completely dedicated to the Russian delicacy of caviar. With over a dozen kinds to try and some of the best vodka and Champagne around, the Caviar Bar & Restaurant is a great place to go for a celebration or just a fitting way to end your stay in St. Petersburg with a splash.

Tallinn & St. Petersburg

Before you venture to the ‘Venice of the North’ – St. Petersburg’s nickname on account of its many canals, you’ll spend two nights in Tallinn, Estonia. If you want the best view of the city, the Tallinn TV Tower has a glass floored viewing platform a mere 21 floors up.

Tallinn’s nightlife encompasses culture in the shape of opera and theatre but there’s also a revered pub and club scene where you can party hard into the early hours and enjoy the local hospitality.
