Summary
Skiing, hiking and climbing are three favourite pastimes for those on holiday to this majestic mountain resort. The surrounding scenery is dominated by the Matterhorn, the pyramid-shaped icon which stands at a highly impressive 4,478 metres tall.
After a busy day in the mountains, there are lots of bars and restaurants in Zermatt where you can swap stories, savour some local dishes and enjoy a well-deserved drink or two. On Bahnhofstrasse, you’ll also find a wonderful selection of shops and boutiques if you feel like spending the day enjoying the buzz of the resort.
The views in and around Zermatt are simply out of this world. The tramway that scales Klein Matterhorn is one way to enjoy these to the full. Another way is to grab a seat on the Gornergrat Bahn which goes up to over 3,000 metres - a historic railway line that’s over 120 years old.
