Latvia Multi Centre Holidays 2024 / 2025

Summary

Latvia lies in between Estonia and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea. It may not get as much attention as its near neighbours and the Scandinavian countries when it comes to multi-centre city breaks, but its capital, Riga, has a wealth of attractions to rival the best of them and trips here are increasing in popularity all the time.

The Freedom Monument commemorates Latvia’s independence and the House of the Blackheads is located in the city’s old town and has an eye-catching Gothic façade. Riga also lays claim to having Europe’s largest market. The Central Market is UNESCO World Heritage listed and has been open for business for almost 90 years.

Description

The Daugava River adds to Riga’s beauty by flowing through the city and bringing another dimension to its old town streets and historic buildings, many of which are centuries old. Riga has its own cathedrals and castle, a zoo and a waterpark amongst other things to see and do.

The city has an interesting past, once part of the Swedish Empire. The Swedish Gate marks the entrance to Riga’s Old Town, a lovely walk during the day along narrow streets, stopping off at any of the cafes, restaurants and bars along the way. And it’s in this part of the city where you’ll find all the best nightlife too. While there are some amazing clubs, there are also quiet little pubs too if you just want to enjoy a few drinks and a chat.

Riga’s architecture is unlike many other cities, with wooden buildings being popular since the 1600s, many of which are still in evidence today in various neighbourhoods. You’ll also find exquisite examples of Art Deco and Rococo buildings.

Andrejsala is the place to go a great bite to eat and a spot of romance. At the end of an enchanting day in Latvia’s capital, you can watch the sun go down while you enjoy culinary delights with the one you love at this city pier. There’s a thriving arts scene around here too with some stunning examples of street art to make you stop and think.

Stockholm and Riga

Before you make your way to Riga by ferry on your multi-centre city break, you’ll spend two nights in Sweden’s stylish capital, Stockholm. Enjoy some island hopping and get fantastic views from any of the city’s 50 plus bridges, not to mention the Skyview building and TV tower which has a 28th floor restaurant. Stockholm is a cool and sophisticated city break destination with art, culture, fine dining, the Nobel Prize museum and a vibrant Old Town known as Gamla Stan.

Stockholm’s islands help to make a couple of days here feel like a real adventure. When the Scandinavian sun is sparkling on the Baltic Sea, there is nowhere else you’d rather be. Then it’s on to Latvia you’ll go. At the end of your stay you’ll have nothing but fond memories of these two charismatic cities.

Book your multi-centre holiday now and enjoy a wonderful break with the water at your side.
